Afton Love — Ocean Touch

Exhibition from August 29 to September 26, 2025
Château de La Napoule

A poetic immersion in the Mediterranean

Poetic and immersive, Ocean Touch explores the sea as both an intimate mirror and a metaphor for perpetual motion. Created in situ during her residency at the Château, Afton Love’s works arise from a direct dialogue with the surrounding seascape and landscape.

At the Edge of the Sea

Initially conceived around the theme of gardens, the project transformed radically through the artist’s process of working on site. Ink, cotton canvas, saltwater, and cyanotype became the materials of an exploration where light, water, and impermanence imprint themselves directly on the work.

“The sea is the infinite within the instant. Here I think about presence, motion, and regeneration.”
— Afton Love

Between Sea and Shore

Suspended canvases encircling the gallery evoke both the material and ephemeral nature of water, as if waves themselves were caught in the air. Large paintings capture the moment when sea and shore merge, embodying the immediacy and impermanence of the Mediterranean.

Where Trust Becomes Creation

Ocean Touch reflects the artist’s ongoing relationship with the Foundation. After a first residency in 2022, which gave rise to a series of works later shown in the group exhibition Résonance (summer 2024), Afton Love was invited back to create her solo exhibition at the Château.

This unique trust, supported by the entire team of La Napoule Art Foundation, allowed the artist to experiment fully and bring an entirely new body of work to life.
