Testimony

My work explores the symbolic meanings of shapes, forms, and colors across cultures and time. I examine their psychological and spiritual resonance, using natural materials such as paper, fibers, wood, leather, steel, and pure pigments to reveal the deep connections between humanity and nature.

While in residence this summer, I have been developing work for two exhibitions at Bogéna Gallery in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The shows include several new pieces from my Tessellated Thoughts series, compositions inspired by the colors and materials used in Moroccan culture.

In addition, I am exhibiting a large-scale installation first conceived during my initial residency at the Foundation in 2021. A Sea of Blue draws inspiration from the Mediterranean’s shifting colors as light moves across the sea from day to night — a physical transformation that reflects a deeper, metaphorical journey.

At the time, my focus was on creating paintings on traditional canvases, but the limited wall space in the tower studio made this challenging. Instead, I became captivated by the shifting shapes of sunlight streaming through the tower’s windows, casting dynamic shadows across the floor. This encounter sparked a fascination with the purity of form and set in motion years of research into sacred geometry and naturally occurring shapes — an inquiry that has since become central to my practice.

That exploration transformed my work, moving it away from traditional painting toward compositions rooted in the irregularities, textures, and forms found in nature. The elements in A Sea of Blue are physical casts of earlier paintings made before the residency. They serve as “ghosts” of my former practice — bridging past and present, and tracing the evolution of my artistic voice.

To be part of La Napoule Art Foundation is a profound gift — a sanctuary where care meets possibility, and where freedom and inspiration flow without limit. Here, we are given the space to dream, to take risks, and to grow, weaving our own threads into the vibrant tapestry of this extraordinary community.
