Clews Center for the Arts
ARTIST- IN- RESIDENCY PROGRAMS
MISSION
Clews Center for the Arts offers time and space for creative minds to
engage in cultural interchange and meaningful work that
impacts the world for the greater good.
ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE OPPORTUNITIES
The Residency Programs that take place annually are outlined below.
General Residency
One regularly scheduled six-week residency per year, offers up to ten
artists the opportunity to live and work at the Clews Center
for the Arts at the Chateau de La Napoule Complex.
This residency focuses on individual artistic expression and exploration.
At its core is a belief in the value of the shared experience of
personal, professional and artistic discovery that takes place within
a supportive environment of peers. Additionally this program promotes
opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue, artistic exchange and
exploration of a shared interest in the greater good.
Themed Residency
This type of residency focuses on artistic expression and exploration
through a specific shared perspective or goal. At its core is a belief
in the value of the groups’ work as equally significant to the achievement
of the individual—the artistic dialogue between all the residents creates
the end product, the whole body of work. Themed programs are organized in
one of two ways:
CCA Facilitated Residency
CCA curates a residency related to relevant social or world events and causes.
Themes may directly address issues of social consciousness or might interpret
the mission more loosely. The level of collaboration among artists depends on
the theme and organization of the residency.
Guest Facilitated Residency
This residency is primarily developed by outside organizations. The specific
focus of each program is generated by the organizer, but reviewed by LNAF to be
in keeping with its residency mission. The level of collaboration among artists
depends on the theme and organization of the residency.
Individual Fellowship
The Clews Fellowship provides an exclusive opportunity for one distinguished
artist per year to live and work at the Château. This artist must have
demonstrated significant achievement in his or her field. This prestigious
fellowship is in the development phase and is by invitation only.
